Abstract:
The study highlights the essential importance of veterinary medicine in the Republic of Moldova and emphasizes the evolution of this profession from the establishment of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine to its current role in animal health, public health, and environmental protection. Despite significant progress in the field, with a total of 3.138 veterinary graduates over the past five decades, there are still considerable challenges, including the shortage and uneven distribution of veterinarians registered with the College of Veterinarians in different regions of the country. A remarkable aspect of the analysis is the demographic shift within the profession. While in the past, the profession of veterinary medicine was male-dominated, with a ratio of approximately 2:1, the trend has now reversed. For the 2024/2025 academic year, the composition of enrolled students is predominantly female, with a ratio of 1.65:1, in favor of women. This phenomenon reflects a change in the professional dynamics and the gender structure of the veterinary medical field.
