Abstract:
This paper presents a personal view on the role of research and education in the capacity building of a knowledge-based society on and the current situation of these two components in the Republic of Moldova. The economic crisis imposes the redimensioning of research in favour of the applied science and technological transfer, with further modification of science financing and the ascertaining of a financial share for university research, in particular. The author asserts that the educational process in universities, promoted without scientific research, does not correspond to the requirements of a knowledge-based economy and is not competitive with the European higher education.
