Abstract:
New environmental directives that implement EU requirements determine strong requests on wastewater treatment in Moldova. Often treatment is unsatisfactory especially in rural areas with less than 2000 inhabitants. In many locations wastewater discharge leads to environmental damage and contaminations in humans. Progress in environmental technologies, such as, constructed wetland, has begun 20 years ago, particularly in rural areas of Austria, France, Greece and other countries. There are various types of systems; however, the sub-superficial method prevails, where the water level is significantly below than on the surface. Depending on the form of realization, the system could be divided in two categories - with vertical and horizontal flow. Currently as a result of continuous progress and productivity, they symbolize the ,,green tendencyˮ in environmental engineering of the country.
