Abstract

The magnitude taken by the road works in Romania during the last years has resulted in an increased bitumen demand. In order to comply with the global targets for an extended economy of road bitumen, bituminous sands can be used instead, these having the advantage of a percentage of natural bitumen in their mineral phase. The paper emphasizes the physical and mechanical characteristics determined through static methods of three technological asphalt mixture recipes conducted with bituminous sand and added hard bitumen in accordance with the departmental standards CD 42 – 85 for the direct use of bituminous sands with and without added hard bitumen for the execution of hot mix asphalt pavements.
