Abstract:
The action of 1 - methyl cyclopropene (1-MCP) has been studied during the treatment of several apple varieties: Jonagold, Idared, Golden Delicious, Reinette Simirenko. Two concentrations were used for comparison: 68 mg/m³ and 136 mg/m³. It was identified, that after treatment with 1 - MCP the degree of starch hydrolisation is less comparing to control. Titration acidity diminished during the storage of treated fruits, the firmness was higher in treated fruits. There were no significant differences between the two doses used. A variety of factors may need to be considered when using 1-MCP, especially cultivar, development stage time from harvest, multiple applications, etc.
