Abstract:
The main goal of this paper is to calculate TFP (total factor productivity) in agriculture by using the productivity index. The Malmquist productivity index has become common in practice by applying the nonparametric programming techniques to calculate TFP as ratios of distance functions. In this study, the TFP index is divided into technical change, technical efficiency change and scale efficiency change. The study was implemented using a panel set of data from 46 farms from the north region of the Republic of Moldova over the period 2004-2006, in order to measure and compare their productivity growths
