Abstract:
Education plays a crucial role in the sustainable exploitation of European cultural heritage, as it helps to develop a better understanding of its importance and value and to promote a responsible attitude towards its preservation and protection. This article aims to increase opportunities to promote a sustainable cultural heritage in Europe through innovative and creative educational solutions for this field. Through education, young people and adults can learn about the history, art, architecture and cultural traditions that define Europe, learning to appreciate and respect them. Education can also help raise people's awareness of the challenges and threats to cultural heritage, such as pollution, over-urbanisation, climate change and degradation. Another important aspect of European cultural heritage education is the development of cultural management skills, which are necessary to protect and enhance cultural heritage in a sustainable and effective way. These competencies include planning and organizing cultural events, managing historical and archaeological sites, developing cultural tourism and promoting cultural arts and traditions. One of the most important needs is the implementation and activation of an infrastructure that allows remote access to various services for the conservation and valorisation of cultural heritage. Augmented reality with virtual reality can play an important role in supporting this use case. This article provides an elaborate introduction to augmented reality and its multidimensional applications in cultural heritage education.
