Abstract:
Preliminary evidence suggests that the provision of custom-made shoes reduces
the risk of further ulceration in those patients with previous ulceration. For the remaining
population, however, it is not cost effective and patients should be encouraged to provide
their own good-fitting footwear. Deformities of the foot include any loss of fatty tissue, toe or
joint abnormality, amputation and any finding suggestive of excessive pressure points or
callus formation. Provided by the multidisciplinary foot clinic as needed. Polyurethane, Velcro-
fastening shoes which may or may not provide forefoot or rear-foot offloading. Designed
to accommodate bulky wound dressings.
