Abstract:
International artistic collaborations. The first attempts of regional collaboration in
the framework of projects promoted by the Chisinau Center for Contemporary Art were
made at the very start of the Center’s activity. Collaboration with the neighboring countries
was certainly a more natural way for defining a common cultural identity, and synchronizing
the techniques of the domestic contemporary artistic discourse by identifying social, geopolitical,
economic and cultural similarities. The scope of interest was aligned along two
directions; one would be towards Romania and the other one - towards Ukraine, and Russia.
The social environment of the Republic of Moldova was and still remains oversaturated with
a multitude of local signs and symbols that created a so-called topos perceived and
interpreted in different ways by both locals, and neighbors, and gradually turning into
platitudes, atavisms deprived of their semantic meaning. For the time being, it can be
regarded as a bilateral perspective collaboration with research character, involving many
practices and disciplines and having all the chances to become dynamic and continuous.
