Abstract:
The paper discusses the possibilities of using of the edible polymer films in the food industry and in agriculture. Such films can be uses for protective and decorative coatings. Coating of seeds with biodegradable polymers is a method of the plant-growth control. Pectin and gelatin-alginic films with thickness in the range of 2...45 microns were obtained. It was found that pectin films have anti-radiation effect in the UV region with strong energy (λ < 240nm), which is necessary to protect food products. The gelatin-alginate films have strong adhesion to polar surfaces and promise good results to cover the seeds.
