Abstract

The Chisinau hotel’s project by architect Robert Kurtz – as a representative example of the architectural trends in Eastern Europe in the 50s - 60s twentieth century. Architect Robert Kurtz was one of the most famous architects of the post-war period in the Republic of Moldova. In 1944-1951 he held the post of Chief Architect of the City of Chisinau, and in 1951-1971 the chief architect of the Urbanproiect Institute. The Chisinau Hotel is his most remarkable object. The project began in 1952 and the construction was completed in 1963. The building in the 60s-70s was a symbol of the new Chisinau in the post-war period. The project was begun in the style of the "Stalinist Empire" of the pseudo-classical architecture with a lot of decorative non-functional details. At last, the hotel was built according to the modern trends of the architecture of the 60's with inherent details of the Moldovan national architecture.
