dc.description.abstract Swine infertility may have different causes: infectious, nutritional or genetic ones. Cytogenetic studies developed worldwide in the last period, put in evidence the fact that of all genetic causes, the structure of chromosomal anomalies, especially reciprocal translocations produces serious reproduction disturbances. The number of reciprocal translocations at swine is more over than one observed at other mammal species which suggests an especial brittleness of swine chromosomes. Considering the high costs of cytogenetical analysis, the present researches tended to establish a new, more economical technique of cytogenetical investigation. Thus, in the first stage was tested a boar grading program to trace out “hypoprolific” animals. 75 boars were used (Large White, Landrace, LS-345 Peris and Duroc breed) and analyzed based on reproduction activity of mate sows (2,000 heads). In the second stage, boars identified as “hypoprolific” were analyzed from cytogenetical viewpoint, using integral blood culture. The results obtained on a boar’s cytogenetical evaluation, taking into consideration the group number and piglets number per group, pointed out the fact that there is no a “hypoprolific” boar. Cytogenetics analysis made on 3 studied boars, which had a lower fertility, put in evidence the fact that there are no structural or numerical modifications of chromosomes for genetic prophylaxis. This technique may be used in selection units and in AI center for genetic prophylaxis en_US
